Mid-year reflection

Jul 18, 2023

Happy summer!

I am not sure about you, but I am once again amazed by how fast time has flown by this year. It’s almost 2 months into the summer break and we have wrapped up the first half of the year. I assume many of you started out the new year with your new year goals, resolutions and plans. How have you done with your goals up to this point? I’d like to give you a shout out for your accomplishments and also help you focus as you continue your journey for the remaining half of the year.

7 Ways to do your mid-year reflection

Look back in order to look forward; leverage this mid-year reflection to revisit your goals and dreams, assess progress and milestones, realign priorities, and celebrate what you’ve accomplished thus far.

Below are 7 ways to finish strong in the second half of the year

1. Goal review

Life can take a different course, and things and situations can change over time. It’s important to review your goals and determine if your goals that you set earlier on are still relevant to you.

2. Progress assessment

Reflect and assess the progress you’ve made up to this mid-point and if you are on track according to your plans.

3. Celebration

Celebration is an important part of the reflection. When you pause to acknowledge and celebrate your wins, you will get even more motivated to your next milestones.

4. Challenges and roadblocks

What were the challenges and roadblocks you faced in the first half? What did you do to overcome them? If you haven’t overcome them, what support do you need in order for you to move forward? What can you do to prevent them from happening in the future?

5. Lesson learned

Regardless whether you’ve accomplished what you set out to do, or have fallen a bit short on your goals, there’s always something to learn from your experience. Taking some time to understand what you’ve learned will make you wise as you march into the second half.

6. Course correction

This is the perfect time to be humble and honest with yourself in order to have an even more effective second half. What do you need to change or improve? Do you need some extra support and push? Do you need to shift your mindset and stay focused? Or perhaps you need a partner to share the ups and downs of this journey while holding you accountable for the end result?

7. Next steps

By now, you’ve reviewed and may have adjusted your goals. You’ve also taken the inventory of what you’ve learned and what change you need to make. The next step is to write down specific actions you can take right away, in short-term and long-term, and start building momentum as you march toward the next 6 months. The most important thing is continuing with your plan and keeping up your action.

Mid-year reflection is a crucial element of personal growth and development. No matter how the first half of the year has gone for you, the reflection gives you the space to assess your progress, make needed adjustments and help realize your goals and dreams in the upcoming 6 months. If you think you can benefit from having an unbiased partner who can help you identify and re-align your goals, come up with plans and take actions in the next few months, you would definitely want to schedule your complimentary call with us.
