Reflection is crucial for personal growth. It gives you a chance to pause and evaluate what you’ve accomplished, missed, and what worked and what didn’t. Regardless of whether you score your 2022 as outstanding, good, acceptable, or poor, 2022 is quickly coming to an end. As we get busy rushing through the holiday season, I’d like to remind and encourage you to pause, reflect, and plan for 2023.
“Sometimes in life, you need to just take a step back and see where all the pieces fall… in that time you will see what is important and what never really was.” – Unknown. And the year’s end provides the perfect timing to step back, unveil the curtain and look back and forward.
The process of self-reflection for me usually involves three steps. I’ve listed them here and have also included questions that might help you peel back the onion and formulate your thoughts, learning, and plans:
1. Gathering data and information
-
What were your big wins and achievements?
-
What were your challenges?
-
What was the biggest challenge you’d overcome?
-
What was the hardest lesson you’d learned?
-
What have you not done that you wish you had?
-
How did you take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually?
2. Evaluating what truly matters
-
What were you most grateful for?
-
How is your life different compared to that at the beginning of the year?
-
What was the most impactful decision you’d made? And How did it impact your life?
3. Setting goals for the next year
-
What advice would you have given yourself at the start of the new year based on what you know today?
-
What would you do differently If you could re-live the past 12 months, and why?
-
What do you want to achieve in the new year if you knew you couldn’t fail?
-
What are your goals for the new year; family, health, career, finance and relationship?
-
What is possible in the next 12 months?
The year end doesn’t just mark the ending, it actually offers a fresh beginning for the new. Regardless where you are at today, if you are planning for the best year to come and would like to have an unbiased and encouraging partner on your side, let’s talk. As a certified life and career coach, it’s always my honor and pleasure to support your journey ahead.
As I wrapped up my last blogpost of the year, I wish you and your loved ones a safe, healthy and reflective holiday season!
